My Take on Cold Calling

I cold called IT professionals to sell a free webinar that we were hosting at Dell. Here's what I learned:

In my last internship at State Farm, all I did was cold call. The problem with that role, is that no one wants to talk to an insurance agency. I know I wouldn't!


The lesson I learned from this experience is the benefit of a well executed first impression.


What I did at Dell, was replicate this. I found that people were a lot nicer to me under the Dell brand name.


I got around 3, "maybe, if my schedule allows for it" answers, and the rest of the calls lead nowhere.


Regardless, I learned that Dell has an incredible relationship with the world, and the more you can convey real time, end to end value for your customers, the more respect you will demand.
